The transition toward a smarter, more sustainable European industry is gaining momentum. On the 15th of May, the AID4SME project officially launches its Open Call #2, opening its doors to the private sector. This isn’t just a funding opportunity; it is an invitation for SMEs and start-ups to anchor their most ambitious, data-driven AI solutions within real-world industrial environments.
A partnership for progress: The role of the Green Deal
Navigating the journey from innovation to real-life market readiness requires a steady hand. As a cornerstone initiative aligning technical brilliance with environmental responsibility, the AID4SME framework is managing the delivery of this 14-month program. By centering support on the objectives of the Green Deal, we ensure that the process is seamless, connecting visionary innovators with the exact resources, tools, and professional networks they need to scale across borders.
Bridging the gap between innovation and adoption
The mission is clear: to accelerate the uptake of trustworthy, advanced AI by connecting those who build the technology with the industries ready to put it to work. Selected participants won’t just receive funding; they will integrate into the exclusive AID4SME Community of Practice, gaining immediate access to a pan-European marketplace of professional expertise, datasets, and collaborative opportunities.
Who is eligible to lead this transition?
- Single legal entities or consortia of up to two, though only SMEs and Start-ups are eligible for financial support.
- SMEs and Start-ups may apply alone or lead a consortium, with a limit of one application per entity.
- The following organisations may apply as a second partner (Industry and Integrators share the one-application limit, while Research/Non-profits are exempt):
- Industry organisations providing the SMEs / Start-ups use-cases and high-TRL playgrounds for solution testing and validation
- Integrators / engineering services providers that support the SMEs / Start-Ups in integration of the solutions
- Research institutions, research infrastructures, non-profit organisations and charitable (scientific) foundations and public research centers
A structured path to success: Core pillars of innovation
Up to 12 exceptional projects tailored to real-world innovation challenges will be selected, with each receiving a maximum of funding of €200,000. To guide solutions toward commercial maturity, entering projects must specifically target real industrial needs through four vital tech focus areas:
- Data Collection: Establishing reliable, high-integrity data pipelines from physical industrial settings to power analytical layers.
- Creation of Insights: Transforming complex operational data streams into crystal-clear metrics and visible value.
- Decision Support Systems: Equipping operators and leadership with precise, AI-backed intelligence to optimize resource usage and lower footprints.
- Automation Solutions: Driving efficiency home by deploying reliable, closed-loop automated tasks to minimise industrial waste and manual friction.
Alongside this financial backing, selected teams will receive a robust package of additional support designed to maximise market impact and growth, including custom training sessions, hands-on technical coaching, and strategic business mentoring.
