The Batteries Synergy is a joint effort that brings together three cutting-edge EU-funded projects – STREAMS, HyLiST, and HighMag – all dedicated to advancing sustainable battery technologies. Its primary purpose is to create value by fostering direct knowledge exchange, coordinating collaboration in areas like testing, and ensuring effective dissemination activities. All of this, naturally, is essential for tackling the critical challenges in the energy sector.
Relying on the expertise of F6S’ communication and project managers, the Batteries synergy is designed to maximise the collective impact of the projects, building strong partnerships that will enhance Europe’s industrial resilience, support the clean energy transition, and boost the competitiveness of the EU battery value chain.
The Projects
Each project is dedicated to a different, critical segment of the battery lifecycle:
STREAMS: focuses on reducing Europe’s dependence on critical raw materials by advancing sustainable technologies and circular approaches in battery production, recovery, and recycling.
HyLiST: targets the development of hybrid lithium metal-based solid-state batteries with a strong focus on scalability and application in aeronautic and automotive industries, contributing to high-performance and safer energy storage solutions.
HighMag: pioneers magnesium-based battery technologies (generation 5), aiming for high energy density, low cost, and scalability for mobility and beyond, addressing key limitations of current lithium-based systems.
Why Synergy Matters
This collaborative approach ensures that European research is both comprehensive and strategic. By aligning expertise across Materials sustainability and supply independence (STREAMS), Advanced battery architectures (HyLiST), and Innovative chemistries (HighMag), the group generates a combined impact greater than the sum of its parts.
This close cooperation is designed to:
- Foster knowledge exchange and conduct joint dissemination activities.
- Identify opportunities for essential collaboration in areas like testing and standardisation.
- Strengthen the EU battery value chain through shared innovation and resources.
- Directly support EU policy goals for green mobility, clean energy, and strategic autonomy.
This shared approach maximises the impact of each project while contributing to a more sustainable, secure, and competitive European battery ecosystem.
