Restore4Life launches “Living Floodplains Digital Toolbox”, igniting a new era for wetland education

The Restore4Life project proudly announces the launch of its flagship educational innovation: the “Living Floodplains: Learn, Explore, Restore4Life Digital Toolbox.”

This interactive Wetland Education Toolbox marks a major milestone in Restore4Life’s mission to connect science, education, and society in support of Europe’s wetland restoration and conservation.

Designed as a dynamic, open access learning environment, the Living Floodplains Toolbox invites educators, students, and citizens to explore the fascinating  world of wetlands. It transforms complex ecological concepts into accessible and inspiring materials that promote understanding, curiosity, and collective action.

A gateway to learning, creativity, and restoration

The Living Floodplains Toolbox blends interactive design with scientific accuracy and educational depth. It includes:

  • Gamified Illustration: Users are greeted by a gamified interactive illustration for each topic, serving as an engaging and immediate entry point into the curriculum;
  • Teaching Materials: Educators can easily access and download the comprehensive Restore4Life Teaching Materials (protocols and worksheets), complete with direct links to Zenodo for reliable, long-term resource availability;
  • Curated Repository: The Dashboard grants access to the Wetland Education Repository, a curated collection of related educational activities and best practices from across Europe;
  • Complementary Tools: Links are provided to other integral Restore4Life tools, including the Blue-Green Space4All online game and the Wetland Fresk participatory workshop, ensuring a holistic learning experience.

"Our ambition was to create a learning space that bridges environmental education and real-world restoration. By engaging teachers, students, and citizens, we are transforming wetlands into living classrooms that inspire action."

Ultimately, the Living Floodplains Toolbox will form an important  part of the Restore4Life Platform – a comprehensive digital environment that unites education, citizen science and data-driven restoration, to accelerate wetland and floodplain recovery across Europe.
